Law students from Turkmenistan participate in “Spring School on Human Rights and Environmental Issues”


The “Spring School on Human Rights and Environmental Issues” is being held in Almaty from 14-18 May. The event is organized within the framework of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe on the rule of law in Central Asia for the period from 2020 to 2024.

A total of more than 40 young lawyers, including those from Turkmenistan, will take part in the event, which is organized jointly with the Human Rights Commission under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The opening of the Spring School includes speeches by high-ranking guests - Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Igor Rogov, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Kestutis Jankauskas, Ambassador of the European Union to Kazakhstan. The event will also be attended by representatives of the Council of Europe and rectors of universities in Kazakhstan.

Student participants will study the case law of the European Court of Human Rights on environmental and climate change issues. Council of Europe experts will present an overview of global issues in this area, as well as international legal instruments applicable in different countries, through thematic lectures, interactive discussions and practical seminars. The program will conclude with the Moot Court event, a simulated court hearing that will help students apply what they have learned in practice.
