UNDP contributes to improving the environmental monitoring system in Turkmenistan

An important phase of the joint UNDP and Ministry of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan project entitled "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza" took place in Ashgabat from 14 to 15 May 2024.

The stage included training session for specialists of air pollution control laboratories, organized for the Environmental Control Service and region Environmental Protection Departments.

The purpose of this event was to familiarize inspectors and laboratory specialists with modern methods for monitoring vehicle emissions of various types of engines, using new instruments purchased within the framework of the UNDP project.

The main focus was on measuring the content of harmful gases in the emissions of vehicles with gasoline and diesel engines.

During the training, specialists were provided with instructions on how to operate the new equipment, as well as practical training in the air pollution control laboratory of the Environmental Control Service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The results of this training and the subsequent operation of the improved laboratories are expected to provide significant support in achieving the key goals of the UNDP project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the national environmental monitoring system.

At the end of the training, all participants received certificates from UNDP on completion of a series of training sessions to master the new instruments. This step confirms their readiness and competence in applying modern methods of air quality monitoring and the importance of their role in preserving the country's environmental sustainability.
